Victoria Falls
First things first – Victoria Falls is a unique natural gem that Livingstone has to offer. Since 1989, these 1.7-kilometer-wide falls have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Legendary is not only the fine mist, which you can shield yourself from with practical rain capes, but also the panoramic paths. You can hike along these world-famous falls, sometimes in the valley, sometimes along the Zambezi Riverbanks at 885 meters above sea level. Lush green rainforests flank your path, leading you straight into the magical scenery of this water-rich border region.
Zambezi River
As Africa’s fourth-longest river, the Zambezi flows through Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. From its source between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo to its mouth in the Indian Ocean, it spans almost 2,600 kilometers. Its most magnificent appearance is at Victoria Falls. Even before cascading as a massive waterfall, the river showcases its powerful temperament, especially during the rainy season from December to April, when it becomes a raging torrent.

In 1855, Scottish missionary David Livingstone became the first European to discover the gigantic waterfalls in southern Zambia. He named them after the reigning British monarch, Queen Victoria. The rest is history. Today, this colonial heritage remains visible in Livingstone’s Victorian architecture. Beyond the historical buildings, local museums vividly recount the bygone days.
