Tanzania safari: The wild south
Tanzania round trip | Duration: from 8 days
The wild south of Tanzania
Itinerary
Arrival in Tanzania
On arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, you will be welcomed and driven to your first accommodation in Tanzania. Recover from the long journey before setting off on your safari adventure the next morning.
From Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park
After a hearty breakfast, you will be collected from your accommodation and driven back to the airport, from where you will fly by small plane to Nyerere National Park, also known as the Selous Game Reserve. During your flight, you will already get a first impression of this breathtaking landscape of southern Tanzania. You fly over endless stretches of uninhabited land and, with a bit of luck, you may spot a few herds of elephant or buffalo from the air as you land.
A driver will be waiting for you at the airstrip to take you your accommodation for the next three nights. The camp is in a fantastic location directly on the banks of a lake fed by the Rufiji River, so camp visitors such as hippos and elephants are not uncommon. After you have settled into your tent, get ready for your first game drive through the national park.
Safari in Nyerere National Park
The next two days are spent exploring the spectacular landscape and wildlife of Nyerere National Park in the morning and evening. The wildlife is varied and in addition to regular sightings of giraffes, elephants and lions, the very rare African wild dog is also at home here in the south of the country. You can experience the untouched nature here not only on classic game drives, but you also have the opportunity to go on boat or foot safaris. Decide for yourself which activities you would like to undertake each day and organize your day according to your wishes.
Ruaha National Park
After a final breakfast in a picturesque setting, you will be driven to the airstrip and fly on to Ruaha National Park. Here you will spend three nights at a luxurious camp in a prime location to experience the extraordinary extent of the wildlife found here up close. The park boasts very varied vegetation, ranging from scrubland and savannah to dense miombo woodland. The different habitats ensure a particularly diverse animal world, so that with a bit of luck you can observe numerous antelope species as well as lions, leopards and cheetahs alongside large herds of elephants and buffalo.
Journey home or beach stay on Zanzibar
Your safari adventure is coming to an end today. If you don't feel like flying home just yet, you can spend a few more days relaxing on the beach in Zanzibar.
You will be driven to the airstrip and fly to Zanzibar. A driver will be waiting for you here to take you to your accommodation for the next few nights. Spend five nights by the Indian Ocean and recover from your exciting safari adventure.
